Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Complete repertoire playlist

I wonder, has anyone ever set out to compile a cd (tapes) of every song the dead ever played live onto one complete set. I enjoy complete shows and in some ways it takes the show to enjoy the experience but it might be a worthwhile undertaking and a great resource. Does anyone know of such a thing.

If not, I might be interested in taking this on myself. If I did do this, if it were not already done, I would appreciate any and all offered help. Especially, I would be interested in knowing (from a wide group of people) what some of the hottest performances of any and all songs might be for concideration.

I won't ramble on now. Maybe, if there's any interest some more discussion could follow.

Sounds like a great idea, a big job, too.I had another idea a while back, thought of compiling a couple of discs with one tune from every year, starting with 65 up to 95, and wanted to ask for help here to choose what would be a good mix. But I postponed it for now, because I don't have the time. I would still like to do it, and if it's only for me, I don't know if this sounds interesting at all to anyone! Otherwise I thought of sending the discs out to anybody who likes, but it would be a "compilation", so it might not be the thing for many.

Namaste, nice to see you on here today.

Sounds like a nice idea, let me know if you need my help. How bout "Eyes of The World" for 73 (DP 14 or 19, close your eyes -- open your EYE and pick)? I have a few more choices, but would like to let this thing flow from all sides.

If it doesn't, shoot me an email.

maybe that'd be a good place to start since you'd only have thirty songs to begin with instead of hundreds.

Interesting you should ask. A number of years ago -- before the advent of CDR's -- I began a compilation, on cassettes, which I called The Music Never Stops. The idea was to include five-star (i.e., knock your socks off, excellent, superb, near-perfect, stunning, etc)live versions, unique segues, and rarely played songs, with a notion somewhere in the background of including at least one example of every song played. Almost everything had been taken off the radio -- concert broadcasts, GDH shows -- and recorded onto cassettes in dolby C or onto VHS hi-fi stereo, then transferred onto 90-min high bias cassettes. I got up to volume 24 before various life events prevented my continuing. I'm sure there were some rare or unique songs I didn't get. I fear some of the cassettes have been lost over the years, others damaged, but I have most of them lurking about somewhere. I'm not quite sure what to do with them, since I don't listen to cassettes any more.

maybe you could help me with some ideas for great (best)live versions for the compilation. There are so many tunes on this site to download that I'm hoping I can do most of this project right from this site.

Thanks!

Ok, the list of tunes is rather daunting but I ... shall not be afraid of the terror by night or the arrow that flies by day, nor for the setlists that ...

nuf of that.

I think I'd like to tackle this. Now, the hard part. Would anyone care to begin "voting" on the "best" live version of any and all songs in the dead's repertoire.

Thank you all,
And, I bid you good night
